What Jupiter describes.
Jupiter is the first of the social planets, and the shift matters. The personal planets describe an individual; Jupiter describes how that individual makes sense of a world larger than themselves. It is traditionally the greater benefic, and its reputation for good fortune is broadly earned, with one caveat: Jupiter expands whatever it touches without discrimination, and a Jupiter transit to a difficult placement expands the difficulty.
The sign placement describes the shape of your belief and the terms on which you are generous. Jupiter in Sagittarius wants a philosophy. Jupiter in Capricorn, in fall, is suspicious of easy optimism and finds meaning through structure and effort instead, which is not a worse arrangement, merely a slower one. Jupiter in Cancer, exalted, expands the emotional and domestic and produces people who feed everybody.
What Jupiter really governs is the capacity to hold a frame. Where Mercury collects information, Jupiter arranges it into something a life can be lived by. This is why the planet rules both religion and the law: both are systems for deciding what a set of facts means.
The twelve-year cycle is one of the most useful timing tools available. Jupiter returns to its natal position at approximately twelve, twenty-four, thirty-six, forty-eight and sixty, and these years frequently mark expansions of scope: a widening of the world, a new framework, a period where more becomes possible.
The shadow of Jupiter is overreach in every register: overpromising, overspending, overconfidence, and the particular certainty of someone who has read one persuasive book. The planet is genuinely fortunate and it does not check.
What it asks of you
A living demand.
Jupiter asks you to believe something and to act as though it were true. It requires a working philosophy rather than an accumulation of unconnected opinions, and it rewards the risk taken on insufficient evidence more reliably than any other planet. Its harder demand is proportion. Jupiter expands indiscriminately, including the things that should not be expanded, and asks you to notice the difference between genuine faith and the simple assumption that it will be fine. Excess is a Jupiter problem far more often than lack is.
When prominent
When the volume is raised.
A prominent Jupiter shows in someone expansive and confident, often physically large in presence, who talks in terms of possibility and is generous without much calculation. It is emphasised when Jupiter sits on an angle, rules the chart, or when Sagittarius, Pisces, the ninth house or the twelfth house are heavily occupied. Such people frequently teach, travel, publish or work in law, and tend to attract opportunity in a manner that others find mildly unfair and they themselves rarely question.
