The King of Pentacles is what everything in this suit was working toward. In a reading he indicates established prosperity, sound judgement about material things, and the reliability of someone who has built something real and can be trusted to maintain it. As air of earth, he brings intelligence to substance: this is wealth managed rather than merely possessed. The boar under his foot is the detail that explains him. Appetite has been mastered rather than indulged, which is why the abundance holds. His limitation is visible in the same image. He is nearly buried in his own vines, and a man this thoroughly established can find it genuinely difficult to imagine that anything might need to change. Stewardship is his gift, and it is not the same as vision.

Reversed, the King of Pentacles describes substance without judgement. Materialism, status measured in possessions, or control exercised over people through resources. It can indicate risk aversion so complete that a business slowly declines through pure caution, or stubbornness in someone whose past success has made them genuinely unable to consider that conditions have changed.

Love & relationship
In love, he provides: security, consistency, a partner who is present in the practical dimensions of a life. Reversed, it warns of generosity used as leverage, of a relationship where one person's provision buys them the deciding vote, or of affection expressed entirely through what is bought and never through what is said.

Work & direction
Professionally, this is mastery: the established business, the person whose judgement about money and risk is worth deferring to, the senior figure who actually built the thing. Reversed, it warns of a leader who cannot adapt, of decisions driven by protecting existing wealth, or of success from a previous era applied confidently to a market that no longer resembles it.

Spiritual growth
Spiritually, the King of Pentacles concerns right relationship with material things: holding a great deal without being held by it. Reversed, it warns of a life in which everything has been secured and nothing has been questioned, and of using material success as evidence that no further examination is required.

Shadow expression
The shadow King owns everyone. His provision is genuine and it purchases compliance, his generosity arrives with an expectation of deference, and he has never once had to hear a difficult truth from anyone whose livelihood he controls.
