The Seven of Cups is too many possibilities, none of them yet real. In a reading it indicates a proliferation of options, daydreaming, or the pleasant paralysis of a future imagined in several incompatible versions at once. Venus in Scorpio gives desire real intensity here, which is what makes the fantasies compelling rather than idle. The cups contain a genuine mixture: the castle and the wreath are achievable, the dragon and the veiled figure are projections, and from where the figure is standing they look identical. That is the card's actual difficulty. It is not that imagination is a problem but that imagining costs nothing and choosing costs everything else. The instruction is to pick one cup and find out what is in it, since none of them resolve while they remain in the cloud.

Reversed, it signals a decision finally taken, or the useful deflation of a plan that looked considerably better before anyone examined the numbers.

Spiritually, the Seven of Cups concerns the difference between spiritual experience and spiritual imagination, which can be genuinely difficult to distinguish from inside. It favours grounding and testing. Reversed, it indicates discernment developing, and the willingness to let go of an appealing idea that has not survived contact with practice.
